The words violent, black metal and Swedish are really all I need for this review, but I'm not quite that lazy (today), so I'll continue. Nirnaeth, hailing from the north of the French territory, started some years ago and already recorded a demo titled «Nothing but Ashes». Along with the three words I mentioned, I could also include epic and brightly composed.

The music delivered by the French horde is certainly something you already heard before but it’s played very well, with every member performing faultlessly and a great production backing them up. One big point of interest is for my opinion the fast paced yet melodic compositions (just listen to songs as «Et Nox Facta Est» or the very good «we’ll Be Victorious» and you shall understand what I mean). The vocals, which perfectly fit Nirnaeth’s musical world, are another nice surprise.

Despite this being only their debut CD, Nirnaeth (together with acts such as Maleficentia, Haemoth, Hegemon…) can stand alongside any of nowadays black metal big names in terms of brutality and technicality. Highly recommended at least if you regard yourself a fan of brutal black metal.
